Yep, it's Miley Cyrus again

Lovely readers, you may notice that I tend to avoid political and controversial topics here on my bloggity. Not because I don't have opinions, but because I just don't think this is the place for that. This is a quiet little nook where we share precious moments of quiet and calm.

Then I heard about Mileygate this morning. I can't help it. I must chime in.

Celebrity. . . um. . . analyst? monger? Perez Hilton posted an up the skirt shot of a un-pantied Miss Miley getting out of a car and flashing her girly bits. So what, right? I mean we've seen Paris Hilton's naughty parts and Britney Spears' C-section scar. What's the big stinky deal? Well, Miley is seventeen, so technically this legally falls under the heading of "child pornography." Whoops. Perez is being lambasted all over the press, losing sponsors and generally being called a nasty doodoo head.

Here's my take:
1. I don't care for Perez Hilton. I enjoy satire, poking fun at celebrity nonsense and all of that, but I just don't find him very smart or witty. That's my personal taste. Not my kind of thing.
2. I don't care for Miley Cyrus much either. I do kinda feel for the kid because she's been an "industry" since birth pretty much, like the Olsen twins, and her life must just be utterly strange. Plus, she says some of the silliest stuff. Not my kind of thing either.
3. In the past couple of years, Miley has attempted to become more of a "sexualized adult figure," to steer her career away from kids and tweens to grown ups. I'm not sure if this is going to work for her, but, from a business standpoint, I can understand it. However, this means that her own created public persona is no longer that of a child star. She's portraying herself as a sexualized young adult. This kind of discounts raging charges of child pornography. And why was she not either (a) wearing undies, or (b) taught how to exit a car so that her unmentionables are not flashed in front of cameras that she knows will be there?
4. Despite that, she is indeed seventeen, and, in my own provencial way, I find this extremely distasteful. Maybe not criminal, but certainly not cool either.
Thoughts? Feelings? Opinions?
Oh, and BP is really torquing me off too, by the way. But we won't get into all of that. We are just "the small people," doncha know. . .

  1. I wish I could come up with an argument MAB (I love a good debate!) but, quite frankly you've hit this nail right on the head. Except for the BP guy. I mean really? He doesn't speak English well and we all know that only a complete idiot would intentionally say something that offensive... Oh, wait, maybe I do agree with you on that one.

  2. she obviously lives in a celebrity world where it's ok to not wear underwear. What is the point of that anyway? Air circulation? Easy Access? No visible panty line? Am I being gross? No grosser than seeing some 17 year olds bits and parts. Just saying. Poor Perez-one day you're up, next day your down. He is a bottom feeder anyway so-I don't really care about this as much as butter Jesus. I can't tell you how many peeps I made look at that. Especially the beach ball and the cat's cradle. That really amused me.

More Later and thanks for all your nice blog comments

  3. I never cared for Perez Hilton and am pretty ticked off that he would post a phot like that of a minor.
As a mother of a 17 year old myself there is no way my kid goes anywhere without underwear and was taught how to get out of a car in a skirt cause nice people just don't flash their crotches in public ever. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if Miley did it on purpose for publicity. We will hear more things like that from her I'm sure. It's too bad too my daughter used to love her and now just thinks she's gross.
