Alice's Restaurant Massacree

"You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. . ."
Arlo Gutherie's "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" (1967) is the single best Thanksgiving song ever. True, it's not like it has a lot of competition. Why aren't there more Thanksgiving songs out there? Hey, songwriters and lyricists and hip hop people, we need more Thanksgiving carols! Anyway, "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" was based on a true story, runs eighteen and a half minutes, and combines Thanksgiving with anti-Vietnam war spirit. It inspired a movie. Plus, it's as funny as all hell.

I was going to add the lyrics to this post, but it would have then run eight pages long. Instead, take a break from your holiday activities, and chill out with this later live version from Arlo for a bit. It even includes Nixon info. Part one. And Part Two. And, yes, Part Three.
Man, Arlo has always had great hair. . .
"And I proceeded to tell him the story of the 8X10 color glossy pictures with the circles and the arrows and the paragraph on the back of each one. . ."
