Owl nest cam

Okay, this may come as a shock to you all, but I can be a bit obsessive at times. . . Yes, it's true. My newest obsession over the past few days is the live owl nest box cam. A fellow in San Marcos, California, put up an owl box and this gorgeous barn owl built a nest in it. I first ran across this site last week, and her eggs were due to start hatching at any time. I kept checking in every time I turned on the computer, to watch the owl tend to her five eggs, sleep and eat mice. Seriously, she is mesmerizing.

Today I turned it on just in time to see the first egg hatch! Can I tell you that I got tears in my eyes? Because I did. The mama owl preened him gently and tended to him while he kind of tottered around and made alarming little sounds. It was truly amazing.

So, if you have a sec, check out the owl cam. Thousands of people are watching this and bonding over an owl sitting on her nest. It's a terrific thing.
