Project Runway: I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want

Last week, because I'm running way behind, the designers were supposed to make something for their models to wear to stand out at an industry party. The models were their clients, and, unfortunately, this created absolutely no drama. Where is the wonderfully delusional model who wants a see-through wedding dress?

Althea, I think you are wonderful, but I don't get your winning look. The skinny jacket is cool, but the skirt is bubbly and bunchy and strange. And the top was bordering on dangerous. The girls were bouncing like a Hurricane Bar during Mardi Gras. (Yeah, I'm not sure what that metaphor means either, sorry.) Maybe a good bra would have helped? But your model sold it, girl. She walked that outfit like she loved it, because she did love it. So, Althea succeeded in terms of the challenge.
I preferred Epperson's dress, but then I have a silver velvet leopard shirt that I wear regularly in the winter. Nah, that dress is fierce, in a very Stephen Sprouse/Debbie Harry 1980's way. Sexy, flattering, and his model also loved it.

Qristyl was eliminated for a perfectly functional black dress. Too plain, no innovation. Innovation is a tricky balancing act on this show. The designs have to be fresh and unusual, but also chic and wearable. Sometimes, this borders on impossible.
I love the season so far, but I'm waiting for something a bit more challenging. No drag queens yet, or lady wrestlers, or making clothing out of trash or groceries. It's time! It's time for insanity! Where is Plant House when you need it?

  1. oooo, I totally agree, that outfit was a mess, the girls were everywhere and didn't Heidi once say that she hates it when the girls aren't where they are supposed to be?!! I love you project runway but you are very inconsistent with the reasoning of winners and losers.
    Love the blog.

  3. Project Rungay is daily reading, yes. Those boys are geniuses. I will never attempt to compete. As for the wedding jewelry, we'll see. She wants snowflakes. . . sometimes, I'm not so good at requests.
